Usuki Gion Festival (Yasaka Shrine Grand Summer Festival)

Time:

  • July 11 (Fri) – Hikidashi (Evening Procession) from 18:00

  • July 13 (Sun) – Owatari (Showcasing sacred mikoshi and floats) 12:25-15:00

  • July 19 (Sat) – Okaeri (Return Procession) 14:40-17:00

  • July 19 (Sat) – Hikikomi (Hikikomi Parade) from 180

Location: Central Usuki Area

Highlights: Traditional floats, performances in historical attire, and festive lanterns illuminating the streets.

Sumiyoshi Shrine Summer Grand Festival

Location: Sumiyoshi Shrine

A shrine festival praying for maritime safety, featuring mikoshi (portable shrine) and ritual events.

 

Sumiyoshi Festival "Precious Memories"

National Treasure Usuki Stone Buddhas Fire Festival

Location: Usuki Stone Buddha

An unforgettable mystical night where sacred flames illuminate the stone Buddhas. A spiritual and cultural highlight of the summer.

 

Notsu City Hassaku Dance Festival

Time: August 30 (Sat) Reception from 18:00, Festival from 19:00

Location: Notsu Area

Held to celebrate the traditional Hassaku (early harvest season), this event features local folk dances and community gatherings.

 

Ō-no-Ji (King Character) Fire Festival

Time: September 22 (Mon)

Location: Mt. Ohira (王の字の山)

A spectacular fire festival, a prayer to ward off fires, where the giant character “王” (king) is lit on the mountain at night — a breathtaking view symbolizing strength and tradition.
